DRAKES SUPERMARKETS

Drakes Supermarkets is an outstanding retail success story – and one Corporate Conversation has had the privilege to promote and build upon.

The family-owned business has grown from one store in 1974 to a group generating $1 billion in turnover. As the group has expanded across South Australia and Queensland, its public relations requirements have evolved.

Corporate Conversation is a long-standing communications partner for Drakes and a trusted adviser to its founder and Managing Director, Roger Drake.

This role has seen Corporate Conversation identify and generate positive media coverage for Drakes Supermarkets to promote key messages to its target audiences.

From announcements of new store openings and award wins to strategic messages of customer service and local brand support to cut through in a retail market dominated by larger supermarket chains, public relations has become an important plank of Drakes’ marketing drive.

For the South Australian audience, Corporate Conversation has focussed on promoting the local heritage and ownership of Drakes, its support of local brands and that of the local community.

In 2018 we promoted a major new development and jobs initiative for Drakes.  Resulting positive coverage of the $80 million distribution centre reached an estimated audience of more than 2.5 million across television, print, radio and online.

With the expanding operations in Queensland, Corporate Conversation has generated positive local coverage for Drakes Supermarkets around store acquisitions and also to highlight its recruitment drives in the regions.
